About the artist

Sheradan A. Mage

  • It all began at 3:33am on a midsummer Friday night in Humble, Texas where Sheradan was birthed to Earth by a woman named Sunshine. Through care and confidence in her, family supported her journey in company dance, provided the tools for crafting, and showed up in countless ways. Sheradan graduated with honors and always seemed to seek to expand her knowledge of the world, of the Whirled~ and participates still in numerous community based activities. The framework of the work before, led her path back to the roots in Texas after growing up in Boise, Idaho a majority of her years. Professionals might say that her frequent moves early in life instilled this sense of carrying the purpose with her, and a call to witness the wonders that lie in every piece of the Whirled. So upon returning to Texas she started PROSe in 2011. The purpose is the foundation to what bloomed into Whirled Pieces. PROSe aimed to maintain focus on the ‘pros’ the positives of life~ wishing to inspire. Also wishing to aquire freedom of expression through custom and prototype experiments of textiles, and mediums of many kinds, she knew the act of creating didn’t have to have a rhyme or reason, but the act of creating in and of itself is a life-giving glimpse of God. She aims to offer her piece and her peace to the Whirled through art.

  • Participation and devotion to the art world began early and some indeterminate time (perhaps pre-corporeal) and has woven the tapestry of Sheradan’s existence. Art holds many forms and the exploration of them fuels her life. While giving credit to her years in Accelerated Academia, the mind having something of depth to dive with is a key component to her work. Educational art tools have held her most recent passions. Her background consists of a span from pen and ink to art installations, and graphic designs.
While art can be very vague in lending a definition, she has tried her hand at numerous mediums and finds ways to combine them to give new textures. While the aptitude for calligraphy and word based designs is arguably most practiced, she also finds love in the flow of film, ceramics, and paint. A major reason for this website is to harbor her many creations and have a home base to showcase her versatility.

  • Aside from dancing at a cellular level since the dawn of her existence, Sheradan has been enrolled in the lessons of technique since age 5. By 8 she was on competing company teams. During highschool she was at the studio 2-5 hours everyday and performing on weekends with a company called On The Verge. Operated through Elevated Dance in Eagle, ID by Kim Machado and Melissa Larsen~ this company amplified her experience as a dancer by inviting so much more soul in and freedom of movement. This was pivotal for how she would come to see dance as a therapeutic movement in future years. Upon graduating, she accepted a narrative that to dance as an adult meant to move to NYC or LA and audition in the relentless world of commercial dance, or teach at a studio. While neither fit the bill of her dreams~ she freestyled after work at a 24hr gym and held onto movement as something dear to her, but not something she could incorporate into her career.
Life had a major shift in 2015 when she attended Shambhala Music Festival on a whim with some friends that were already dancing together on a self-made company and invited her back into taking classes and learning choreography. She unlocked the knowing that dance in purest form is free and limitless. Similar to her ideals of making the art world more accessible, she wanted to invite others to experience movement from an open and non-formulaic place of expression.
The following year after this blossoming of understanding she was teaching workshops at festivals with the Collective that invited her in, CoreVette. While she later would continue her dance teachings and explorations solo, the time spent being re-empowered and supported by other movers was pivotal.
Sheradan now facilitates Guided Movement workshops she has dubbed OM Movement (Omniscient Motivations Movement) and carries the principle that while technique can build a better performer, there is so much juice in the simple act of moving the body.

  • “In the beginning was the word…”
Growing into a poetic view of the Whirled (and having too much fun playing with the syntax of the English language), Sheradan has always had a way with words.
Her first published poem titled “I Am” was written when she was 8 years old. Excelling at English and Literature subjects, the aptitude was a reflection of a broadened understanding of the many possibilities we have at our fingertips with the code of a mere 26 letters. While language can be limited, Sheradan strives to find a way to carry a message eloquently and phrase things in ways that are unique, expansive, and a bit playful.
